Program Description

The instrumental program is offered in violin, viola and cello and consists of private weekly lessons, regular group lessons, concerts and recitals.

PRIVATE LESSONS
Private weekly lessons can be ½ hour long (30 minutes), ¾ hour (45 minutes) long, or 1 hour (60 minutes) long. Length of lesson and location will be determined at time of registration. Parents must attend all private lessons. Parental involvement is the key to the Suzuki method since the parent acts as the teacher at home.

GROUP LESSONS
There are 13 group lessons per year and they take place on Saturdays at Alexandra Public School located at 84 Henry St., St. Catharines. Group classes are organized according to skill levels. Although they are not mandatory, it is highly recommended that students attend group lessons.

Music is intended to be played with others and group lessons offer students a positive learning environment in which they are motivated by their peers, other teachers and other parents. Group lessons provide time to review technique as well as repertoire. Group lessons are also important for learning to follow a conductor as well as playing in a group. (GROUP LESSONS COMPLEMENT WEEKLY PRIVATE LESSONS.)

PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT
Parents are required to regularly attend private lessons. They are required to play the Suzuki recordings on a daily basis for their child. Parents are expected to practice regularly with their child in a supportive and encouraging environment.

Parents are required to provide their child with an appropriate instrument. Parents are also requested to expose their child to other musical experiences such as concerts, recordings and radio and television performances.

Registration Information

Registrations are accepted throughout the year based on availability of teachers. Fees are based on four 9-week terms and cover solely the private lessons. Group lessons and recitals are paid for through funds received from out involvement in Bingo and Fundraising events throughout the year.
